- Coloring Page #445 - Mexican desert with Cactus plants
Here is a tall cactus from the Mexican desert, an amazing plant that can survive in very harsh conditions. The cactus stores water in its tissues, which allows it to stay green and alive even when it doesn't rain for months. Its spines replace leaves: they protect the plant from animals and also reduce water evaporation.
In the desert, days are often extremely hot with very high temperatures, but nights can be surprisingly cool. The cactus is a true champion of adaptation: it opens its tiny pores mostly at night to "breathe" and save water.
In your coloring page, you can shade the cacti in bright green, the ground in sandy yellow or ochre orange, and the mountains in reddish brown. The sky can be light blue for daytime, or violet and pink if you want to imagine a beautiful Mexican sunset.
