- Coloring Page #220 - Halloween Glowing Pumpkin
Oh! Watch where you're stepping... This pumpkin seems to have chosen its spot very carefully. Surrounded by long twisting vines creeping across the ground, it stands guard like a Halloween sentinel protecting the entrance to a secret passage. A passage leading where? Excellent question. Some say it opens into a field filled with glowing lanterns. Others believe it leads to a party where bats dance until sunrise.
The first thing you'll notice is its triangular eyes and enormous jagged grin. It is clearly trying to look frightening. But does it succeed? Maybe not. It looks more like it's pulling funny faces at the autumn leaves drifting past. Old Halloween lanterns often have that theatrical side to them: they pretend to be scary when, deep down, they simply enjoy being admired.
Did you know that carved lanterns have become one of the most recognizable symbols of Halloween? Long ago, they were used to bring light to dark autumn evenings. Today, they decorate homes, gardens, and Halloween celebrations around the world. Every carved pumpkin has its own unique face, which means no two lanterns are ever exactly alike.
If you enjoy this curious guardian of the night, be sure to explore our Halloween adventures to color, discover this lantern made from a pumpkin cousin, this pumpkin waiting to be carved, or this floating Halloween ghost wandering through the night. Now it's your turn to choose this lantern's colors and decide whether it will become the spookiest... or the friendliest Halloween decoration in the neighborhood!
