But in real life, an “apple worm” usually isn't actually a worm. It can be the larva of an insect such as the codling moth, a small moth whose caterpillar develops inside the fruit. It tunnels through the flesh and may reach the area around the seeds before eventually leaving the apple. That's one tiny visitor our cheeky cartoon apple would probably prefer to see moving in next door!
